Drew has written a book called ZigBee Wireless Networking and has been involved in the ZigBee Alliance and creating the specifications since 2003.

2012 International Consumer Electronics Show a Success

Las Vegas, NV - January 14, 2012 - The 2012 International CES was the largest in the event's 44 year history, with a record number of more than 3,100 exhibitors across the largest show floor in CES history – 1.861 million net square feet of exhibit space – and drawing a record of more than 153,000 attendees, including more than 34,000 international attendees. More than 20,000 new products were launched at the 2012 CES, which also featured top executives participating in keynote sessions, including those from Qualcomm, Mercedes, Wal-Mart, Intel, Ford, Verizon, Unilver, Ford, eBay, GE, Google and Facebook.
San Juan Software was able to meet many new and existing ZigBee customers both in the booth at the ZigBee pavillion as well as at locations throughout the show. Smart Energy devices continue to dominate the ZigBee world followed closely by Home Automation products and Consumer Electronics such as televisions, set top boxes and media players. There are now more than 400 ZigBee certified products and the number is growing quickly. Among the ZigBee products on display were "Hopper" from Dish Networks, which uses ZigBee RF4CE for a set top box that allows consumers to move from room to room and resume programs and movies where they left off. LG announced their Home Energy Management System (HeMS) called ThinQ at the show which also uses ZigBee technology.

ZigBee Light Link: LED Lighting Control Standardized

San Ramon, Calif. – Jan. 4, 2012 – The ZigBee® Alliance announced it is developing a new open standard designed for LED lighting control – ZigBee Light LinkTM. This forthcoming standard will help manufacturers develop a variety of lighting and control products, giving resellers and consumers a wide selection of interoperable wirelessly controlled lighting products for the home.

The Alliance is creating a standard that will be as easy to use as a common dimmer switch. Light bulbs, LED fixtures, sensors, timers, remotes and switches built using ZigBee Light Link will not require special devices to coordinate in a home’s network. Consumers will be able to easily install and add extra devices to their home lighting network. Like all devices in the ZigBee portfolio, ZigBee Light Link devices can be controlled over the Internet through connected computers, tablets and smart phones. Drew Gislason Elected as Chair of ZigBee Health Care

Barcelona, Spain- October 28, 2011-At the ZigBee Members meeting in Barcelona, Drew Gislason, president of San Juan Software, was confirmed as chair of the ZigBee Health Care work group. He also holds the office of co-chair of the Cluster Library Development Board (CLDB) which controls attributes across ZigBee profiles. He has been involved with the ZigBee Alliance since 2003, contributing to the specifications and holding officer positions in groups such as the Application Framework Group (AFG) and ZigBee Building Automation (ZBA). Health Care is expected to become a thriving market for ZigBee in the next several years as pressures mount to provide better care at lower costs. The ZigBee Alliance is working with the Continua Health Care Alliance to set standards for wireless networking in health care devices used in the home for fitness and monitoring, as well as in extended care facilities and hospitals with sensor arrays for medical equipment. The mesh capabilities of ZigBee allow it to be used for asset tracking of expensive equipment in hospitals and can even be applied to patient tracking, allowing alzheimer's and dementia patients greater freedom within a facility while lowering the risk that they will wander away and get lost.

ZigBee Alliance Completes ZigBee Building Automation Standard

ZigBee Building Automation is the global standard for interoperable products enabling the secure and reliable monitoring and control of commercial building systems. It is the only BACnet® approved wireless mesh network standard for commercial buildings. Products using ZigBee Building Automation give building owners and operators control of more building types, previously unreachable rooms or sensitive areas, thanks to its low-power wireless operation. Existing wired BACnet building automation systems can now be expanded with greater ease and reduced operational cost. CONSTRUCTS Toolkit is a wireless sensor mesh network system for new, mixed-reality (virtual + physical) applications in education, gaming, and design prototyping. A series of blocks with sensor boards, accelerometers and a cool magnetic interface tracks actual movement, orientation and position of the blocks and .reconstruct it all virtually on a nearby PC. New Version of Ubiqua from Ubilogix
